Who we are

Tū Kotahi Māori Asthma Trust, established in 1995 as New Zealand's first Māori Asthma Society, provides kaupapa Māori education, support, advocacy, and resources for families throughout the Wellington region and beyond. Tu Kotahi have forged strong and enduring research partnerships with key institutions, including the University of Otago, and have contributed to numerous research studies. They are currently developing an intergenerational indigenous playspace and tiny forest at Wainuiomata Marae, incorporating Māori design elements to help reconnect families with their culture, language, and spiritual beliefs.

Our Work with SPIRIT

Thanks to support from SPIRIT, our vision for an intergenerational Indigenous playspace is becoming a reality. This is more than a playground — it’s a life-changing project for our whānau and community, creating lasting opportunities for cultural reconnection, community wellbeing and intergenerational healing.

What SPIRIT means to us

SPIRIT has allowed us to think big. The commitment to "building a world of play" has inspired our team to dream alongside the marae and our community — turning our combined ideas into the development of a magical space for our tamariki - a place where they can explore, imagine and reconnect with their culture in a way that feels joyful, safe, and grounded in te ao Māori.
