The Onkwehon:we Midwives Collective

About us

Onkwehónwe Midwives Collective (OMC), located in the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation across New York, Ontario, and Quebec, provides culturally safe midwifery and wellness care aimed at sustaining the Onkwehón:we way of life. OMC supports families through prenatal care, education, and home birth options that honor language, culture, and community, welcoming future ancestors into the world surrounded by their people and medicines.

Our work with SPIRIT

As part of the SPIRIT funding, we are continuing our Home Visiting program with our clients and expanding to include a cultural-based playspace for our community members to experience the benefits of play in a safe and welcoming environment.

What SPIRIT means to us

SPIRIT has allowed us to incorporate a culturally-appropriate framework into how we empower our community members to be great guardians of our future ancestors. Through the SPIRIT program, we have been afforded many opportunities to collaborate with other programs to see how they have implemented the framework, allowing for us to establish more creative avenues for delivery.
