Round Valley Indian Health Center

Covelo, California | Yuki Ancestral Territory

Who we are

The Round Valley Indian Health Center is a non-profit organisation established in 1968 to provide accessible health care to the people of Covelo and the surrounding Round Valley Indian Reservation in Northern Mendocino County, California. Located more than 15 miles from the nearest hospital in Willits, the Center serves a remote community of around 3,000 people.

Situated within Yuki ancestral lands, the Round Valley Indian Reservation was established in 1856 and is home to descendants of seven tribal nations. The Health Center’s services combine modern medical practice with an emphasis on cultural and community wellbeing. Alongside primary and preventative care, staff acknowledge and support traditional Indian Medicine and holistic healing practices.

Community programmes include smudging ceremonies, storytelling gatherings, and youth cultural events that strengthen identity and connection. This integrated approach reflects a belief that true health extends beyond treatment — it is sustained through culture, belonging, and relationships.

What SPIRIT means to us

Much like SPIRIT, Round Valley’s model shows how Indigenous knowledge and contemporary healthcare can work together to nurture wellbeing for future generations.
